The Mankind Project is made up of regional communities of men called centers. There are currently over 35 centers around in the world, in places like South Africa, Canada, United States, Europe and more. Some like the center in Chicago are over twenty years old, with well over 3-4 thousand men who have been initiated. Other communities are like the Intermountain Community, which is a relatively young community. Since this part of the country does not have an incredibly large metropolitan base, like many other centers, the men in several small communities as of 2007 have begun to band together to put on New Warrior Training Adventures. These men come from northern Utah (SLC mostly), western Wyoming (Jackson Hole), and south central Idaho (Sun Valley, Pocatello). Only a few years old, there are over a hundred fifty men who have been initiated. The men in this area are excited about the work and offering the benefits of this community and work to other men.
Local New Warrior Training Adventure2005 saw the community in Utah put on the first New Warrior Training Adventure in the area. Many of the local men from a very small group where supported by 15 or more men from around the country in putting on this first training, which was lead by one of the founders of the NWTA. 2006 saw Utah's second training supported by the small group of men from the Jackson Hole, Wyoming area. This training saw even more men initiated than the first. 2007 is seeing the first Intermountain NWTA sponsored by ManKind Project Arizona scheduled, with men from Idaho joining Wyoming and Utah. Are you going to be one of the men who joins us on the mountain?
Local Men's Groups and ParticipationFor some men the New Warrior Training is a powerful experience and that is all they need or wish for their involvement with the ManKind Project. There and many of these men in the Intermountain community. Other men have a powerful experience and wish to have more involvement in MKP but due to familial, church or other commitments are unable to participate in anything other than an occasional basis. Finally there are men who get so much out of the work that they participate in weekly groups of men. We call these Integration Groups, or I Group for short. There are currently 3 I Groups in the Utah Area, 3 in the Sun Valley area, and 1 in Jackson Hole. Utah has the start of 1-2 more groups planned in conjunction with the next NWTA. Many of the men believe and hold that the growth and support they get in I Group is even stronger than what the received on their NWTA weekend experience.
Service and Other WorkMany of the men in Intermountain are committed to personal growth to become the man they wish to be and to be available to support other men in that same growth. Our local community puts on Leadership trainings, trainings to develop skills for men on staff of an NWTA, we have a quarterly service commitment to feed to homeless, we are supporting the growth of even smaller communities of men in Jackson Hole, WY and Sun Valley, ID, we have community gatherings and social get together's, and numerous other individual acts of service. So there are other things going on in the community in addition to the weekend and the local I Groups.
